Crafters and Artisans for Rescued Animals (CARA) is a registered nonprofit founded in 2020 dedicated to pairing animal rescues and wildlife rehabilitators with talented craftspeople who create custom-made items to help animals in need. Volunteer crafters donate their time and talents to sew, knit, crochet, or construct a wide variety of products for domestic and wild animals alike. Some are universal necessities, like blankets and bedding; some are bespoke creations to fit individual animals, like bandage wraps or sweaters; and many more are completely new and unique designs that have been developed and tested in partnership with rescues to meet a very specific need. Collaboration with rescue organizations is central to CARA’s mission, and rescuers and crafters work together closely to ensure that all patterns, materials, and finished products are safe for the animals using them. CARA works only with reputable, licensed rescues, veterinarians, and rehabilitation facilities, and has facilitated over 1,000 donations to more than 370 animal-focused organizations in the United States, Canada, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. While most donations are made-to-order, CARA also maintains a supply of standard disaster-relief items that can be sent out on short notice. CARA is always seeking donors and volunteers to continue this work; for more information or to contribute to animals in need, visit CARA’s website
